Upcoming Programs for 2020
CANCELLED - July 27, 2020: Pandemic Projects Show & Tell. Bring your projects you have completed during the last few months to share.
September 28, 2020: Michele Crawford will present "Just Cut the Scrap"
Our speaker in September is Michele Crawford from Spokane. Michele has been a Quilt and Needlework
Designer since June 15, 1989. She is
also teacher, author, lecturer, marketing consultant, and kit designer. She has been the owner of Flower Box Quilts,
an internet quilt pattern and kit company, since 2004. Michele has over 200 original quilt patterns
plus 3 quilt books authored by her on her website.
Michele writes, “I love to quilt and share my passion of quilting with my students and customers! I have a gift of being able to combine colors and various fabrics together to create THE quilt! I love the design process of creating a new quilt. As a quilt teacher, students will find that my classes are jam packed with cutting, piecing and pressing tips and techniques that work for me (and now many others). I encourage students to have FUN, "step out of their box" to try something new, and work at their own pace as there isn't a ‘quilt police’ in my classes.” She loves to share her “tried and true” sewing tips and techniques for accurate measuring, cutting, piecing, and pressing.
Michele has taught at many quilting expos, quilt shows, and quilt guilds. She has designed many sample projects for international trade shows, patterns, publications, websites and/or project sheets. Her quilting and needlework designs - over 4,500 designs - have been published in 40 publications since 1989.
Michele got a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in June 1976 from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
November 23, 2020: Annual Basket Raffle/ Silent Auction
It is time to put your basket(s) together for the NOVEMBER basket raffle. If you have found some things you no longer need or realize you will never use, please consider putting those items together in a basket for either the basket raffle or the silent auction! Remember, your basket or donation does NOT need to be sewing related! We have had some wonderful baskets in the past with themes like: wine, picnic, coffee, tea, game night, etc. ANYTHING goes!
Silent Auction items tend to be items that are higher in value. One year someone donated a Featherweight! Quilts and wall hangings have also been popular silent auction items. The silent auction item could even be something like a boat trip on Lake Coeur d’Alene, or catering a dinner for 8 people. We ask the person submitting the silent auction item to set the starting bid. Bids on silent auction items will increase by 10% of the starting bid price. In other words, if the starting bid is set at $20, each subsequent bid must be $2 (or more) higher, even if the first bid is $25. You may also put a reserve price on the item. If the bidding does not hit or go over the reserve price, you may take your item back at the end of the evening.
If you have items you would like to donate, but in and of itself that item(s) isn’t enough for a basket, we would be happy to accept those donations and will pair them up with some items from others. We have already received a few donations of fabric, books, rulers, even a serger sewing machine! Please call Mary Wallgren at 909-815-2596 to arrange for pick-up, or better yet, just bring them to our September meeting. Since we are very short of storage space, please bring your finished baskets to the November meeting. We would like to have them all there about 5:00 so we can get set up and people can purchase tickets.
Let’s hope all goes well with the world so we can still meet and have our NOVEMBER Basket Raffle and Silent Auction on November 23rd. We look forward to having you join us and we appreciate any and all donations! Don’t forget, you are welcome to bring your friends, even if they are NOT members of NIQ. There is NO guest fee for our November meeting. It may be a great place to get some great bargains on your holiday gifts.
